After earning a SM from the Harvard/MIT Health Sciences and Technology program, Tom joined Siemens where he ran the global MRI business. He has also served as the CEO of the global medical operations of Carl Zeiss, the CEO of Analogic Corporation, and Chairman and CEO of LightLab Imaging, a start-up he helped to establish and sell. Tom re-joined Siemens in 2002 eventually serving as a member of the global operating board of Siemens Healthcare and the CEO of Customer Solutions Division, with 26,000 employees in over 130 countries. In April 2013, Tom started GreyBird Ventures, a consultancy and investment firm.
Judy brings to NinePoint Medical more than 25 years of financial experience, predominately in the medical device industry. Prior to joining NinePoint, Judy served as chief financial officer of ConforMIS, Inc., where she was an integral member of the leadership team that created the foundation for the operational and commercial strategy of the company’s patient-specific knee replacement systems. Prior to ConforMIS, she served as vice president and controller at NxStage Medical. In this role, she was instrumental in building the financial and administrative infrastructure that led to the company's initial public offering, secondary financing and acquisition of Medisystems Corporation. Judy also spent more than nine years in various financial positions with C.R. Bard through the acquisition by AVE/Medtronic, where she supported multiple divisions focused on improving the economic efficiencies in their manufacturing operations. Judy holds a B.S. in accounting from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an M.B.A. from Babson College.
For more than 20 years, Michael Madden has helped companies develop, manufacture, and commercialize medical devices. Before joining NinePoint Medical, Michael worked as vice president of research and development in the endoscopy division at Boston Scientific. He successfully launched nine product franchises geared toward GI disorders and significantly increased the division’s portfolio and revenue growth. Prior to that, he served in the same capacity for the urology and gynecology division, distinguishing it as the fastest growing division at Boston Scientific. Michael also previously worked for Medtronic AVE, where he led the acquisition and management of an X-ray technology startup, and C.R. Bard, Inc., where he led research and development teams as director of the global cardiology technology group. Michael holds a BS degree in engineering from Purdue University and an MS degree in electrical engineering from Tufts University.
Patrick MacCarthy has more than 10 years of marketing and sales expertise within the medical device and technology sectors. Mr. MacCarthy joined NinePoint Medical from Olympus America, Inc., where he was an integral member of the leadership team for Olympus’ flagship medical device and equipment business. Most recently, Mr. MacCarthy was vice president of marketing, responsible for marketing and strategic planning in the endoscopy division. Prior to that, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Olympus, including vice president / business unit leader and executive director of marketing, both in the endotherapy division. Mr. MacCarthy holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Colorado School of Mines.
Kurt Heine brings to NinePoint Medical nearly 15 years of sales and leadership experience in sales in the endoscopy field. Prior to joining NinePoint, Kurt held positions of increasing responsibility at Boston Scientific Corporation. For six years, he was a director of sales and a part of the senior sales management team, where his responsibilities included mentorship of Boston Scientific's international business, forecasting and sales execution of the U.S. business, and development of region and territory managers in the field. Prior to that, Kurt served in region management and global sales training. Kurt attended the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a B.S. in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Jessica Duda is a member of NinePoint’s founding team, having served as project director during the company’s initial development at Third Rock Ventures. She previously worked at Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems, Inc., a medical device company focused on neurological disorders, where she held responsibilities in corporate development, regulatory, and manufacturing. Prior to that, she was an associate at Polaris Venture Partners, where she developed strategic business plans for companies in a variety of industries, and a research analyst for DePuy Orthopaedics. Jessica earned an AB degree from Dartmouth College and BE, MS, and MEM degrees from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.
Jim Moriarty has 20 years medical device experience ranging from leading groups doing initial proof of concept work on novel treatments through commercializing new platforms. Prior to joining NinePoint Medical Jim spent over 11 years with Medtronic. He gained international experience during a multi-year assignment in Ireland, where he led the effort to successfully commercialize the S7 coronary stent in Galway. On returning to the US, Jim led the effort to commercialize the Driver coronary stent, a very successful stent that obtained 30% market share in its first year of release. Then, as Director of the Peripheral and Endovascular Product Development groups, Jim successfully commercialized both self-expanding and balloon-expandable stent platforms. As part of the Ventures organization he championed the evaluation of several vascular opportunities from both a business and technical point of view. Most recently, his role was Program Director - Innovation in the Coronary/Peripheral Product Development organization where he championed the re-introduction of the engineer to the physician. Prior to Medtronic Jim spent eight years at CR Bard and Arterial Vascular Engineering leading plastics technology development for coronary catheters. Jim obtained a BS and MS in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell.
Scott Blood brings more than 15 years of professional experience and leadership in quality, regulatory, operations, and product design for life sciences companies. Prior to joining NinePoint Medical, Scott has held leadership positions in Quality, Regulatory, and Operations at such companies as Candela Corporation, InfraReDx, Inc., Fossa Medical, and PercuSurge, Inc. up through its acquisition by Medtronic AVE. He has also operated his own organization, providing consulting services in establishing quality systems, resolving compliance problems, representing firms in FDA inspections and Notified Body audits, developing sterilization, cleaning, and design and process validations, and developing regulatory strategies for early-stage medical device companies. Scott also sits on the Board of Directors of MassMEDIC and is a member of the leadership team of the Biomedical Division of the American Society of Quality. Besides his leadership position with the ASQ Biomedical Division, Scott is an active committee member of New England Biomedical Discussion Group of the American Society of Quality and a frequent lecturer on quality, clinical and regulatory topics relevant to the life sciences industry. Scott is a Certified Quality Engineer and a Certified Quality Auditor through the American Society of Quality. He also holds Regulatory Affairs Certification through the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society. Scott holds a BS degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Michael Jesi has over 25 years of experience in the high-tech, high-growth medical device product industry. He has spent the last 7+ years with GE Healthcare - Specialty MR, as the Director of Operations introducing new high-field (1.5 Tesla) dedicated purpose MRI systems for extremity imaging to the market place. Prior to that he lead the development activities at endoVia Medical, as Vice President of Product Development, responsible for product design and manufacturing for the user console and sterilized single use instrumentation for robotic laparoscopic minimally invasive surgical procedures. Michael also spent over 8 years with Arrow International as Director of Engineering/Product Development for Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps and Catheters. His duties also included RA/QA responsibilities. Michael started his career at Puritan-Bennett Corporation where he spent 12 years as a Mechanical Design Engineer as well as Operation Manager developing and manufacturing respiratory diagnostic instruments and patient monitoring equipment. Michael holds a BS in Engineering from Northeastern University.
Ken O’Brien has over twenty years of experience developing software for a variety of instrumentation systems. Prior to joining NinePoint Medical, Ken was Director of Software Engineering at InfraReDx, Inc. which developed a novel catheter based instrument for detecting lipid rich plaques in coronary arteries. Prior to that, he managed a team responsible for developing the control software for a series of tandem time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry instruments developed by Applied Biosystems. Ken holds a BS degree in biomedical engineering from Boston University and MS degrees in biomedical and electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
John C. Maffeo has experience working within the medical device industry for more than fifteen years. John arrived to NinePoint Medical from Atrium Medical where he held the position of Director of Clinical Affairs. John was responsible for clinical trial strategy, design and execution for both pre and post-market clinical trials. Prior to this role, John was with Boston Scientific and held progressive leadership roles in Clinical Affairs, ending his fifteen-year career there having successfully held overall global management for strategy, design and execution of Boston Scientific’s next generation drug-eluting stent system. John received a Master of Science in Health Sciences concentrating in Clinical Research Administration from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Seton Hall University. He has also obtained professional certifications in Clinical Research (ACRP), Regulatory Affairs (RAPS) and Project Management (PMI).
Eman Namati brings to NinePoint Medical extensive scientific and technical expertise in the field of medical imaging. Prior to joining NinePoint, Eman was a post-doctoral research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School working with Profs. Gary Tearney and Brett Bouma on the development of Optical Frequency Domain Imaging. He has authored and coauthored over 50 scientific publications, abstracts and book chapters in the fields of signal processing, computed tomography, multi-modal imaging and biomedical optics. In addition, he has numerous patents related to optical imaging technologies. Eman holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering through a dual program with Flinders University Australia and the University of Iowa as an APA(Australian Post-graduate award) and ISATNA(Iowa/South Australian Transnational Alliance) fellowship recipient. He received a double undergraduate degree in Engineering (BE) and Science (BSc) from Flinders University Australia.
